54년을 열 번의 라운드로
주식 타임머신은 1970년부터 2024년까지를 시장의 큰 전환점에 맞춰 열 번의 라운드로 나눈 시뮬레이션입니다. 매 라운드 몇 개의 회사 카드가 나오고, 가진 돈을 어디에 얼마나 나눠 담을지 정하면 시간이 다음 전환점까지 흘러갑니다. 플레이할 때마다 라운드 연도가 한두 해씩 달라지고 등장하는 회사도 바뀌어서 매번 다른 여행이 됩니다.
등장하는 회사는 IBM·코카콜라·엑슨모빌처럼 1970년에도 이미 거대했던 회사부터, 도중에 상장하는 애플·마이크로소프트·아마존·엔비디아·구글·테슬라, 그리고 코닥·시어스·구 GM처럼 무너진 회사까지 다양합니다.

라운드마다 기다리는 사건들
- 1973–1975 오일쇼크: 유가가 치솟고 증시가 크게 흔들린 시기입니다.
- 1980년 애플 상장: 막 상장한 컴퓨터 회사를 알아볼 수 있을까요?
- 1987년 블랙먼데이: 10월 하루 만에 다우지수가 22% 넘게 폭락합니다. 공포에 팔지, 버틸지 선택해야 합니다.
- 1990년대 후반 닷컴버블과 2000년대 초 붕괴: 인터넷 기업이 폭등했다가 무너지는 과정을 그대로 겪습니다.
- 2008년 금융위기와 2010–2012년 테슬라·페이스북 상장, 그리고 2024년까지 이어지는 마지막 라운드.
결과를 읽을 때 기억할 점
게임 속 수익은 배당을 재투자하고 주식 분할을 반영한 수정주가로 계산합니다. 수수료와 세금은 계산하지 않습니다. 또 게임에 나오는 회사는 우리가 이미 이름을 아는 회사가 대부분이라서, 실제 1970년의 투자자보다 훨씬 유리한 조건입니다. 그럼에도 한 회사에 몰아 넣었다가 코닥이나 시어스를 만나 크게 잃기도 하고, 너무 일찍 팔아 대박을 놓치기도 하지요. 결과 화면에서는 나의 투자 성향과 라운드별로 가장 좋았던 선택을 함께 보여 줍니다. 높은 기록은 게임 속 성과일 뿐, 앞으로의 투자 실력을 뜻하지 않습니다.

54 years in ten rounds
The Stock Time Machine splits 1970 to 2024 into ten rounds, each ending at a major turning point for the US stock market. Every round deals you a few company cards; decide how to split your money between them and time jumps to the next turning point. The exact years shift by a year or two each time you play, and the companies change too, so no two trips are the same.
The lineup ranges from companies that were already giants in 1970, like IBM, Coca-Cola and ExxonMobil, to ones that list along the way, like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, Google and Tesla, and ones that collapsed, like Kodak, Sears and the old GM.

Events waiting in each round
- 1973–1975, the oil shock: oil prices soar and the market is badly shaken.
- 1980, Apple's IPO: would you recognize a newly listed computer company?
- 1987, Black Monday: the Dow falls more than 22% in a single October day. Sell in a panic or hold on?
- The late-'90s dot-com bubble and its early-2000s crash: live through internet stocks soaring and then collapsing.
- The 2008 financial crisis, the 2010–2012 Tesla and Facebook IPOs, and a final round that runs to 2024.
How to read your result
Returns use split-adjusted prices with dividends reinvested. Fees and taxes aren't included. And since most companies in the game are names we already know, you have a big advantage over a real investor in 1970. Even so, going all in can land you on Kodak or Sears, and selling too early can make you miss the big winner. The result screen shows your investing style and the best pick in each round. A high score is a game result, not proof of future investing skill.
